Rilievo Architectural Surfaces
Custom CNC-fabricated sculptural surfaces designed to transform architecture through pattern, light, and material.

From Sketch to Installation
Rilievo surfaces are designed and fabricated through a precise creative workflow—hand-crafted artistry supported by advanced digital modeling and CNC production.

Heading 4
Hand Sketching
Every Rilievo surface begins as a hand-drawn concept.
Through sketching, the movement and rhythm of the pattern are explored freely, allowing the design to develop organically before any digital tools are introduced. This step establishes the artistic foundation for the final architectural surface.

Digital Design
The sketch is then translated into a digital model using advanced CAD and 3D design software.
At this stage the geometry, depth, spacing, and flow of the pattern are refined to ensure both aesthetic quality and fabrication precision.

CNC Fabrication
Once the digital model is finalized, the design is fabricated using precision CNC routing technology.
High-performance materials are machined with extreme accuracy to produce the complex relief patterns that define the Rilievo architectural surface.

Final Installation
After fabrication, the panels are assembled and installed to form a continuous architectural installation.
Integrated lighting enhances the depth and movement of the relief, transforming the design into a dynamic architectural feature within the space.
The Rilievo Pattern Language
Rilievo surfaces are developed through a design language exploring movement, rhythm, and depth.
Each pattern belongs to a family of forms that transform flat walls into sculptural architectural surfaces.
Flow
Organic surface patterns inspired by natural forces such as wind, water, and ocean waves motion.
These patterns create visual movement across architectural surfaces and enhance spatial dynamics.

Cellular
Patterns inspired by biological structures and natural cellular formations.
These surfaces create complex organic networks that introduce depth, texture, and visual complexity to architectural walls.

GEOMETRY
Structured patterns based on geometric logic and parametric relationships.
These surfaces create contemporary architectural expressions through repetition and mathematical order.

SCULPTURAL
Bold three-dimensional surfaces designed to create dramatic architectural statements.

The Rilievo Pattern Language
Rilievo patterns often originate from natural growth systems and mathematical relationships found in nature.
Structures such as spirals, cellular formations, and layered geometries are translated into parametric surface patterns that can be fabricated at architectural scale.
Pine cone
Biological growth patterns found in pine cones.

Golden spiral diagram
The Fibonacci sequence and golden ratio describe the geometry behind these spirals.

Parametric relief pattern
The natural logic is interpreted through computational surface modeling.

Outdoor illuminated planter
The system becomes fabricated architectural elements such as illuminated planters.

Rilievo patterns are developed through a structured language of geometry, rhythm, and spatial modulation.
Architectural Applications
Rilievo surfaces can be developed in a wide range of visual languages—from flowing organic patterns to geometric structures and sculptural reliefs. Each design is custom generated to fit the scale and identity of the project.

Lighting Integration
Rilievo surfaces are designed to interact with light.
Different lighting strategies emphasize texture, shadow, and depth, transforming the relief into a dynamic architectural element that changes throughout the day.

2️⃣ Grazing / Wall Wash Lighting
Wall-mounted lights placed close to the surface cast light across the relief, creating strong shadows that reveal the carved depth of the pattern.

3️⃣ Integrated Linear Lighting
4️⃣ Dynamic / Color Lighting
Rilievo panels can be fabricated using
translucent materials, allowing integrated
backlighting to illuminate the surface from behind.
Programmable lighting systems can be used to transform the atmosphere of the space by changing color and intensity.
Lighting transforms Rilievo surfaces from static architectural elements into dynamic spatial experiences.
Applications
Rilievo surfaces can be integrated into a wide range of architectural environments, transforming walls and spatial elements into sculptural features.
Each Rilievo installation is custom designed to respond to the architecture, scale, and lighting conditions of the project.
Featured Projects
These selected projects demonstrate how Rilievo surfaces transform architectural spaces through sculptural relief, material craftsmanship, and integrated lighting.
Each installation is uniquely designed to respond to the character and scale of its environment.
Designer Vision
ilievo was developed as an exploration of how digital fabrication can transform architectural surfaces into sculptural elements. Rather than treating walls as flat boundaries, the goal was to introduce depth, rhythm, and movement through CNC-carved relief patterns.
By combining computational design with precise fabrication techniques, Rilievo allows architects and designers to integrate custom surface geometries directly into their spatial compositions. Each project becomes a dialogue between material, light, and architectural form.
